Toc fishing

Toc fishing

Toc fishing is a "classic" technique that is practiced using mainly natural live bait. As its name implies, fishermen using this method feel the touch in the hand that holds the line by a "toc".
This type of fishing is both informative and exciting, in the sense that it allows you to learn about the behaviour of trout or other fish in their environment, or how a river works, while being entertaining. The technique of toc fishing is quite simple, and to practice it, there is no need to invest in too technical and expensive equipment. An excellent way to combine learning and a passion for fishing without too much expense.

The technique of toc fishing

The principle of toc fishing consists in making a living bait (ringworm, earthworm...) evolve in the most natural way possible using a line without a float following the direction of the current. Unlike static fishing methods, the toc fisherman does not have to wait for the fish to come to him, but rather will prospect the edges and obstacles to find it. As already explained in the introduction, the key is indicated by a toc which can sometimes be violent for this fishery.
Just like the technique, the equipment required is simple. Let's discover together the basic equipment adapted to fishing for toc.

The equipment required for toc fishing

The rod
To practice fishing with the toc, the rod that any experienced fisherman will recommend is the one with an inner line. It is particularly suitable for fishing in congested areas. However, you can choose to use a ring rod according to your habits. Regarding its size, it should be chosen according to the type of watercourse. A rod with a length of between 3 and 3.5 m will be perfectly suitable for fishing in streams. If you plan to fish in large streams, it would be better to use a 4 m longer rod. As for the type of cane, a remote control will be perfect for beginners.
The reel and the line
As far as the reel is concerned, it only serves as a reserve of line for fishing for knock. Therefore, it is useless to equip yourself with a very technical device. Whether you choose a fixed drum or a rotating drum model, just make sure it is lightweight or even ultra-light. The reel is filled with a 14 to 20/100 nylon. On the leader side, this part must be 2 to 4/100 less in diameter than the line body.
